The Influx of Babyboomers Into the Aged Market

It is expected that the Baby Boomer generation will have a different attitude to growing old than previous generations.

The idea of a family eco-compound must overcome resistance due to:

An over developed sense of privacy, security and suspicion.
A lack of community spirit.
Fear that neighbourhoods will be visually destroyed.
Lack of vision in creating interesting alternative lifestyle choices.

The following preferences must be addressed as BabyBoomers get older:

Need for intelligent stimulation and activity.
Requirement for excellent communication systems.
The ability to lock-up and leave.
Unwillingness to spend much time on gardening and maintenance.
Availability of small living units in their own local areas.

Home care is socially and financially preferable to hostel care. Government at all levels is now very aware of the growing aged care problems. The family compound could help solve the pressure on institutions and allow people to stay home longer with family support.
