Development Barriers to Eco-Compounds

Lack of knowledge of sustainable economic issues – passive and active solar design, permaculture, water harvesting.
Lack of appreciation for the physiological and psychological benefits.
Lack of participation by local government in such developments.
Out-dated zoning, solar access and urban design policies.
Reactive attitudes of legislators who are sceptical of change.
The approval process currently rewards the status quo.
Developers short-term profit objectives override longer term benefits.
High cost of land - leading to a push for maximum density without consideration of solar access.
