Urban Design Challenges for "Over 55' Developments

"Over 55" housing policies developed by legislators in the recent past have often resulted in two unsuitable 2-storey ‘’project homes’’ being squeezed on single sites – a process driven by a profit motive. Apart from destroying the visual amenity of the area, the developments, not being truly designed for the ageing population have resulted in a negative reaction to this abuse of privilege, from nearby residents .

It does, however, remain beneficial for local governments to examine ways of saving the concept of "Over 55" housing and allowing a percentage of the housing stock to be allocated to correctly-designed houses for ageing in place.
