Retirement Villages – Hostels – Nursing Homes

We are constantly reminded that our population is ageing and respond by creating mono-culture style retirement villages. These projects might be suitable for active 55-year olds but we must question if the retirement villages of today will become the old aged villages of tomorrow.

Presently, older relatives are being transferred to nursing homes, often simply because there is no-one nearby to assist them. Family compounds will provide the answer to this dilemma. Aged people can live side by side with younger generations and with a little help enjoy a largely independent existence.

Making the buildings solar passive creates healthy living spaces which are cool and comfortable in the hot summer, amply supplied with fresh air breezes. The same houses work in the reverse during winter providing warm living areas, cosy corners and light bright kitchens. Sharing solar power systems makes for cost effective installation and low running costs. In a future where the social security payments may be much lower or non-existent, saving 90% on annual energy bills will become even more attractive.
