Compound??
In this instance we mean a small cluster of buildings comprising two residences and two activity areas with a mixture of private and common courtyards and gardens. A family compound offers a solution to different generations living in close proximity to each other but in an independent and inter-dependent manner.

Eco?
This is an environmentally sensitive development. Care has been taken to select materials which both suit our climate and have low embodied energy. Thus we aim to make a smaller footprint on the earth while benefiting from an excellent solar passive design, shared solar power sources, correct orientation, shading from summer heat (whilst admitting full winter sunshine), water wise and permaculture gardens, water tanks and grey-water re-use systems and some shared facilities. The interiors have been given consideration – questions were asked such as : is the product toxic, is it from a renewable resource, does it harm the environment, was it produced by fairly paid workers, can it be sourced from the local community, does it support hand craftsmanship.

Eco-Compound
The Eco-Compound is a family eco-village. It draws inspiration from civilizations much older than ours, from before the times of mass production and nursing homes.
